After studying, piloting devices, training, and listening to feedback, WISD is ready to take the next step forward in providing access to technology by issuing Chromebooks to 7th graders at Hall and Tison Middle Schools for the 2017-2018 school year.
The goal of Weatherford ISD's Roos Go 1:World initiative is to empower students so they leave with the technology skills and knowledge they need to be globally competitive, now and in the future. Weatherford ISD recognizes the power of an innovative modern learning environment, which includes not only a device for each student, but the support and guidance to use that device to cultivate each student's skills, gifts, and talents. In doing so, we will promote student achievement by providing more opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, as well as a personalized approach to learning. Our teachers will be able to take learning outside the walls of the classroom and students will have 24/7 access to learning.
Chromebooks will be distributed to 7th grade students attending Hall Middle School on August 22, 2017 and Tison Middle School on August 24, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 pm. At that time, parents will learn about Chromebooks, Canvas & Google, all tools students will use for learning. Presentations will begin every 15 minutes beginning at 5:00 pm.
To ensure a robust network and a safe learning environment for students participating in the 1:World initiative, WISD will charge a technology usage fee of $25 per student per year. This can be paid during device distribution time by cash, check or money order. In addition, students and parents will need to complete the "Student-Parent Device Use Agreement" and the "WISD Acceptable Use Policy" forms. You may print these from the website and bring them to the device distribution.
