(AUSTIN) – Gov. Rick Perry has proclaimed
January 2009 as School Board Recognition Month.
“Members of school boards,
men and women, who share a commitment to serve their communities, dedicate
themselves to ensuring that students in the LoneStarState are given every opportunity to
excel through education," Perry said. "In collaboration with others - including educators,
governmental officials and the citizens of the districts they serve - school
boards are essential members of the education community."
Weatherford ISD is recognizing its Board Members throughout the month of January. WISD Board Members include Yale Young, President; Bob Guess, Vice President; Paul Paschall, Secretary; Charlie Martinez, Member; Dave Cowley, Member; Kip Hooks, Member; and Col. Kim Olson (ret.), Member.
“Few people fully understand the scope and
far-reaching implications of board members’ responsibilities," said James B. Crow, Executive Director of the Texas Association of School Boards. "Their role is not
an easy one. They establish a vision for the education program, design a
structure to achieve that vision, assure schools are accountable to the
community, and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning."
