RECENT NEWS:

Weatherford ISD is pleased to offer text messaging services via the District’s SchoolMessenger notificationsystem whenever an emergency situation may arise.

Grant Priess, WISD Directorof Safety and Security, announced that although parents currently receive phonecalls and e-mails for general information messages, a new feature for text(SMS) messages is now available for WISD emergency calls only (which mayinclude school delays and/or closures).

“Basically, parents will haveto opt-in before they are allowed to receive text messages,” Priess said. “Thisis because most phone providers charge a nominal fee for receiving textmessages.”
On Thursday January 21st, parents may receive an SMS message to the wirelesscell phone number that WISD has on file requesting to opt-in to receiveimportant information from the District via SMS text messaging services.

The message that will be sentout will be similar to the following:
“Weatherford ISD alerts. Reply Y for aprx5 msgs/mo.  Txt HELP 4 info.  Msg&data rates may apply.  Visit schoolmessenger.com/tm”

Those wishing to receive SMSmessages need to reply with “Y” or “OPTIN” or “SUBSCRIBE” when they receivesuch a verification message.

Opting Out

To opt out of all textmessages from SchoolMessenger, visit http://www.schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg/or reply with STOP to the opt-in message that you receive.

WISD does not pay for textmessage charges that may be incurred by its recipients for sending or receivingtext messages. Parents are strongly encouraged to please check withtheir wireless carriers for possible charges.

SchoolMessenger Facts
WISD’s callout system can contact the entire student body and staff memberswithin 15 minutes. For general information calls it is designed to call theprimary phone number designated by a parent or guardian. During an emergencysituation, the system will place a phone call to all phones numbers listed foreach student, send an e-mail, and provide a text message (for those whoopt-in). If a telephone number is busy, for example, the system will retry each15 minutes for up to one hour.

Those who have work e-mails listedmay not be receiving electronic notifications because they are either beingdirected to a “junk mail” folder, or the company’s proxy server is not allowingthe e-mail to be sent.

Also, it is important forparents to keep all phone numbers up-to-date with WISD– especially the primaryphone number. To change a phone number, please contact your child’s school.

Recent results have indicatedthat the SchoolMessenger system has a success rate of 82 percent or higher inreaching WISD parents and staff members.
