Tison Middle School Principal and Ninth Grade Center Associate Principal Named

The Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Eric Sams as principal for Tison Middle School at their Special Meeting held on October 31, 2016.

Mr. Sams replaces Carrie Harrison who recently accepted a position with Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD. He has 16 years in public education and began his Weatherford ISD career in 2013 as an Assistant Principal at the Weatherford High School Ninth Grade Center. In 2015, he was named Associate Principal at the same location. Mr. Sams was instrumental in establishing the Early College Academy in Weatherford ISD, an option for high school students to graduate with both a high school diploma and Associate’s degree

Prior to coming to Weatherford ISD, Eric worked as a teacher and Assistant Principal in Fort Worth ISD.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Texas and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas Christian University. Eric and his wife, Karen – a teacher at Crockett Elementary, have two children.

Mr. Sams said, “I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve students and their families at the Ninth Grade Center for the past three years. The NGC staff are gifted individuals that do amazing work with young men and women every day. I look forward to becoming part of the Tison family and facilitating the traditions of innovation and achievement at that campus.”

R. J. Rodrigue was named the Weatherford High School Ninth Grade Center Associate Principal. Mr. Rodrigue began his career in Weatherford ISD as an English Language Arts teacher at Tison Middle School in 2006. In 2008, he was named Tison Teacher of the Year and was later named the Weatherford ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. Since 2012, R. J. has served as an Assistant Principal at Weatherford High School.

Mr. Rodrigue holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master in Education in Education Administration, both from Texas Christian University and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State University.

Mr. Rodrigue said, “I’m so grateful for the time I spent at the Weatherford High School main campus. Working with the outstanding teachers and administrators at WHS prepared me for the next step of continuing a tradition of excellence at the Ninth Grade Center, an opportunity I’m honored to have. I look forward to building new relationships with our ninth grade students and their families.”

Weatherford ISD superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hanks said, “We’re very proud of both of these individuals and look forward to the leadership they will bring to their campuses.”
