Austin Elementary Teacher of the Year - Kendall Berry

“My greatest contribution in being a classroom teacher is building a unique relationship with each child,” Berry said. “In addition, I consider my parents as partners in the educational process and communicate and collaborate with them in a variety of ways.

“ I am so proud to have organized a kindergarten through third grade volunteer tutoring program; guiding my students to being in the top 20 in the Think Through Math program in state of Texas; designing lessons to bring my students up two grade levels in reading; and bolstering the inclusion model for special needs students, she added. “ These accomplishments let me know that I am reaching my goal of making a difference by educating children. In my classroom, we discuss book novels in our KidBlog; we talk about our data and how to push ourselves to the next level using continuous improvement models. In challenging, teaching, and inspiring my students on a daily basis, I feel confident that my influence will make a difference in their lives.”
