Wright Elementary Teacher of the Year - Stephanie Jester

Jester said she’s always wanted to be a teacher because she loves to help others, sought out those who were in need, and always liked being a leader.

It wasn’t until she watched her mother, surrounded by kindergarten students, that she knew education was her path. For 22 years, her mother lovingly taught, nurtured and developed learners despite the challenges placed in front of them.

Jester said she wanted that feeling of helping children reach their potential no matter what stood in their path. Because of her mother and other mentors, she has become an educator with a passion and vision for her students. Every day, first graders come into her classroom facing the challenges of academic and social learning. She also said her job is not to solve her students’ problems but to support them as they become problem solvers. Her classroom culture is one of respect.

“We value every opinion and each others’ learning tie,” she added. “ My students inspire me to be the teacher they deserve, and I inspire them to care for others and give everyone an opportunity to learn.”
