Weatherford ISD and Pending Litigation Between the Weatherford Texas Hospital Company and the Parker County Appraisal District

Weatherford ISD is not a party to the pending litigation between Weatherford Texas Hospital Company and the Parker County Appraisal District (PCAD), however; as the largest taxing entity in Parker County, WISD is keenly interested in the outcome of this litigation. The lawsuits, the first of which was filed in the 415th District Court in September of 2012, contend that the Parker County Appraisal District has over-valued the land and buildings leased by Weatherford Texas Hospital Company by about $25 million. The Weatherford Texas Hospital Company believes the taxable value should be about $35 million, while PCAD has estimated a value of $60 million.

Weatherford ISD and the other taxing entities affected by these lawsuits have only recently become aware of the existence of this pending litigation from a September 15, 2015 meeting of the PCAD Board of Directors. If the pending litigation results in a favorable outcome for the Weatherford Texas Hospital Company, Weatherford ISD may be required to reimburse as much as $1 million for the 2012-2014 period. Should that occur, the WISD Board of Trustees and administration would evaluate repayment scenarios that would minimize any impact to the operation of the school district. WISD’s first priority is to provide a world-class education to our students. The District would focus its efforts toward protecting the educational program so that a minimal affect results from the loss of revenue. Trials on the lawsuits have been set for February and December of 2016.
