Calendar Survey for Making Up Lost Instructional Minutes

Since students and staff returned from the Winter Break, we have missed a total of 7 school days: 4 days due to weather and 3 days due to staff absences during a COVID 19 spike.

The State of Texas requires students receive a total of 75,600 minutes of instruction each year. While we had additional minutes built into the school calendar, we have now exceeded those minutes and will need to make up the lost instructional time.

WISD Administration seeks your input for making up lost instructional minutes due to inclement weather. Below you will see two options for changing the 2021-2022 school calendars and attached you will find the school calendars that reflect Options A and B. Please review the changes proposed for each option and then vote for your preferred option.

Results of this survey will be shared with the Board of Trustees at their Regular Meeting to be held on March 21, 2022.

Option A:

  • Change Friday 5-27-2022 from an Early Release Day to a full day of instruction for students
  • Make Tuesday 5-31-2022 a full day of instruction
  • Make Wednesday 6-1-2022 an early release day and last day of the school year
  • Make Thursday 6-2-2022 a staff workday

Option B:

  • Make April 18th a day students are required to attend (currently a Professional Development Day/Student Holiday)
  • Make Good Friday, April 15th a Professional Development Day for Staff & keep it as a Student Holiday (staff would be required to do professional development remotely)
  • Make May 27th a full day instead of an early release—this date would remain the last day of school for students
  • Beginning April 4th we will add 5 minutes to the school day at each campus

Thank you for providing input to our calendar survey!
