Two FFA teams advance to state in Texas Leadership Development Events

The Public Relations team, made up of members Emily Sharer, Josh McDaniel, and Emily Albert, have put in a lot of time and creative juices in order to give a presentation recruiting new members to the local FFA program as part of this contest. The team executed their speeches and provided outstanding answers to questions concerning the FFA from the audience, assuring them a first place finish and a spot at the state level contests. The Greenhand Skills team gave an informative demonstration on plumbing for their agriculture skill and finished second place in a large group of competitors. They will also advance to the state contest. The team is made up of all freshmen FFA students: Abby Davis, Maggie Glenn, and Levi Schutz.
Coming in third place were the Senior Skills and the Senior Chapter Conducting Teams. Members of the Senior Skills team are Clayton Adair, Mitch Hamiter, Paulie Cocke, and Colton Hard. The Senior Chapter Conducting team presents a mock meeting using correct parliamentary procedure laws and was made up of students Jada Fraser, Alex Adair, Shaley Rudolph, Morgan Kieffer, Clayton Adair, Landrey Edwards, Alex Hammett, and Paulie Cocke.

The Agriculture Agvocacy contest is in its inaugural year, and the team had great success with their presentation over a wholesome food supply with a 5th place finish at area. The Ag Advocacy team was comprised of members Victoria Talbott, Shelby Wulfjen, Christin Gasca, and Jacob Chapman. FFA members Jake Beaird, Waylon Wilder, Grace Hardey, Mary Smith, and Korleyan Khem made up the Agriculture Issues Forum and gave a presentation over cloning in the Equine industry. They are a young team, being all freshmen, and finished an impressive 9th place.

Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms. Teams are coached by Weatherford FFA Advisors Mr. K.C. Kemp, Mrs. Amber Jennings, and Mrs. Jesse Medlin.
