This past Friday and Saturday the Roo Wrestlting teams held their annual Outback Invitational tournament at the NGC. In their first post "Ice Apocalypse" action the Roos took on wrestlers from 12 area high schools, wrestling well enough to keep many of the individual tournament awards right here at home.
The JV team started the medal parade as 14 individual wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight brackets with 6 first place and 5 second place finishes. Outstanding performances were turned in by Jake Beard (3rd in 170lb bracket) and Austin Bauer (1st in 120lb bracket).
The Varsity boys team took to the mats on Saturday morning, grappling their way to an overall 5th place team finish and 5 individual medals. T Payne led the way with a 1st place finish in the 113lb bracket followed by Nestor Oviedo 2nd place at 170lbs, Cole Fournier 2nd at 120lbs, Tyler Delong 3rd at 220lbs and Clint Mayo 3rd at 126lbs.
Finally the Girls team finished out the tournament in style taking 1st place in the team portion of the tournament on the strength of 7 different Roos taking home individual medals. Alex Herle, Alena Kessler, Taylor White, and Bethany Jackson each took 1st place in their brackets with Kassie Bransford taking a 2nd place finish and Terra Hein a 4th place finish.
The teams will be in action again this Tuesday afternoon at the NGC with Azle and Saginaw High Schools coming to town.
