Advanced Academics
WISD values advanced academics and supports the pathway of engaging students in opportunities for accelerated learning in appropriate academic settings. Through our GT program, Honors courses, AP courses, Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit courses, we prepare students by challenging them and encouraging them to perform at a higher academic level.
GT--Grades K-1 will be served by the classroom teacher, with 30 hours of GT training, through differentiated instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.
Grades 2-5 will be served through the Quest program, a weekly pull-out program with certified GT teachers.
Honors Courses--Honors courses are offered grades 6-10 in the core subject areas. These classes challenge students and prepare them for their academic pathways. The Honors courses at middle school will lay the foundation needed to enroll in honors and AP classes in high school.
Advanced Placement Courses--Through College Board, these classes will prepare students for the Advanced Placement Exam while awarding high school credit. Generally, AP exams with scores of 3 or higher are accepted at most colleges for college credit. You can find a list of these colleges and universitites on the College Board AP Credit Policy Search.
Dual Enrollment--WHS offeres dual enrollment with the Tarleton Today program. Students can take courses that will award both college and high school credit.
Dual Credit--WHS students have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Credit classes with Weatherford College. These classes are at a lower cost and a student will receive the college credit with a passing score
