ELIGIBILITY
What are the eligibility requirements to enroll in WISD’s Pre-K program?
Some students may qualify for the free program. In addition, Weatherford ISD employees may also apply for the tuition-based program.
Qualifying Students:
- 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year (cannot already be 5 years old, and is not provided to 3-year-old students)
- Educationally Disadvantaged (Limited Income Eligible) or
- Emergent Bilingual (Learning English as the second language) or
- Homeless or
- Under the care of DFPS/ Foster Care or
- The child of an active duty member of the US Armed Forces or
- The child of a family member that was killed or injured during active military duty or
- Is the child of a person that has received the Star of Texas Award
WISD Employee only – Tuition Based:
- 4 years old on or before September 1 of the school year (cannot already be 5 years old, and is not provided to 3-year-old students)
- Child of Weatherford ISD Employee
- $4000 total tuition, includes a $50 registration fee ( Payroll deduction )
- Maintain current registration paperwork with the campus, including birth certificate, proof of address, immunization records, etc.
Can 3-year-olds qualify for free, full-day Pre-K?
WISD does not offer a full day Pre-K program for 3 year olds.

What are the benefits of the full day Pre-K program?
A full day Pre-Kindergarten program offers several advantages for both students and their families:
- Develops vocabulary, math, and literacy skills for students
- Students improve 11-12 standard points on vocabulary and math skills
- Students are more advanced across multiple reading measures
- Economically disadvantaged students attending a high-quality full day Pre-K typically score higher on 3rd grade state assessments
- Provides an educational option for families whose work schedules don’t allow their children to attend a half-day Pre-K program
What type of curriculum will be provided?
The Weatherford ISD Curriculum and Instruction Department will provide curriculum that highlights the core domains (Emergent Literacy, Math, Science, & Social Studies) for high-quality Pre-Kindergarten based on the Texas Education Agency Pre-K guidelines.
The program’s instructional framework incorporates the Texas Education Agency's Pre-K curriculum guidelines including social/emotional development, language & communication, emergent literacy reading, emergent literacy writing, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, physical development, and technology applications.
What is the ratio of adults to children in the classroom?
Each classroom can have up to 22 children with 1 teacher and one paraprofessional.

What are the daily hours of the Pre-K Program?
The hours are 7:50 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
How late can I pick up my child?
If your child is not enrolled in extended after-school care, you will need to pick up your child at regular dismissal time, which is 3:30 p.m. For information about Weatherford ISD’s Kids Unite program, please click HERE .
Does the full day Pre-K program follow the standard WISD school calendar?
Yes.

What is the daily routine of the Pre-K classrooms?
The schedule includes time for math, literacy, science, social studies, recess, music & movement, breakfast, lunch, snack, and rest time.
Will the children have an opportunity to nap every day?
Yes, students will have a daily rest time for up to 1 hour.
Will transportation be provided for my Pre-K child if my child attends a campus within my zoned boundary or not?
Enrolled student meeting the eligibility requirements for transportation will receive bus service if requested. Weatherford ISD makes school bus transportation available to all students living two or more miles from school. This service is provided at no cost to students.
How can I find out what time the bus will be picking up and dropping off my child?
The Weatherford ISD Transportation Department will make those plans and contact families as the school year approaches.
COSTS – (EXTENDED AFTER SCHOOL CARE, MEALS, SUPPLIES)
Is extended after school care be available for full day Pre-K students?
After school care is available until 6:30 pm for at an additional cost through Kids Unite. For information about Weatherford ISD’s Kids Unite program, please click HERE .
Are meals provided? If so, what is the cost?
All Pre-K students will be able to purchase breakfast and lunch.
Costs for breakfast and lunch will be provided prior to the start of the school year.
What other costs can parents expect to pay?
School supply lists will be available for families to purchase needed items. The Weatherford ISD Education Foundation provides school supplies to families needing assistance. Parents needing school supplies for their children should contact their child's campus main office.
FOR WISD EMPLOYEES
Can any relative of a WISD employee attend Pre-K?
No, only children of a WISD employee are eligible to attend.
How does a WISD employee pay for the monthly tuition?
Payroll deduction is the only way to pay the monthly tuition.
How much is the monthly tuition?
The total tuition for Pre-K is $4,000. This averages to $400 a month across ten months.
