January is School Board Recognition Month

Weatherford Independent School District joins hundreds of other school districts throughout the state in recognizing its School Board members as part of January’s School Board Recognition Month.

“More than 7,300 men and women serve on local school boards across the state helping to promote public education,” Weatherford ISD Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hanks said. “At Weatherford ISD, our Board members continue to devote countless hours to this District, and their focus has always been on student success.”

School resumes on Monday, January 6, 2014

We hope everyone enjoyed the last two weeks with family and friends! Weatherford ISD schools resume tomorrow and will operate with a normal schedule. Temperatures are expected to be in the teens tomorrow morning with a wind chill in the single digits. Parents are encouraged to be sure their children are dressed warmly.

Weatherford High School students will pick up new spring semester schedules Monday morning:
• Seniors will pick up schedules in Gym B
• Juniors in the upstairs landing
• Sophomores by the cafeteria

Retired librarian visits Curtis, shares holiday book with students

As a long-time educator, Helen Spivey has crafted many lessons and traditions in her years at Weatherford ISD.

The librarian at Curtis and Tison for many years before becoming a mentor to incoming teachers and retiring in 2000, Spivey has now created a new tradition — one that combines reading, family and students.

Wright Elementary National Geographic Bee winners announced

Winners of Tuesday's sixth grade National Geographic Bee at Bill Wright Elementary included Julielle Nguyen, first place; Ana Luna, second place; and Braden Orona, third place.

The moderator for the event was Weatherford ISD Instructional Generalist and State Board of Education Member Pat Hardy. Wright Elementary sixth grade social studies teacher Casey Goff organized the event.
