Desktop Printer Self-Help

Campus network printers (includes both team room printers located throughout the campus and Xerox printers located in each campus workroom) may be installed by Weatherford ISD Technology following entry of a Work Order.

The WISD Technology Department does not provide support for desktop printers. If you have a desktop printer in your classroom, you are responsible for installation and maintenance of the device.

Many of the desktop printers currently used will self-install once connected to the computer; some will not.

Please use the following instructions to download and install the correct drivers for your desktop printer (if you do not already have the installation disk):
  1. Open the printers folder on your computer and verify the printer did not install already.
  2. Note the make/model of your printer (ex. HP Deskjet 5550, etc.)
  3. Access the Support/Drivers website for your printer.
    a. www.hp.com
    b. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/index.do
    c. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home
    d. http://www.xerox.com/
    e. http://www.brother-usa.com/
  4. Search for the model printer you wish to install and download the driver.
    a. Select the driver that matches your Operating System (Windows 7, 8.1, or 10)
    b. Currently most district computers and laptops use 64-bit drivers
  5. Run the installation file you downloaded.
How to Printer Share Desktop Printers
  1. Turn on the computer attached to the printer you would like to share and log in.
  2. Access your Printers and Faxes/Devices folder:
    1. Windows 10: Click Start > Settings > Devices > Left-click Your Printer > Click ‘Manage’ >
      Printer Properties
  3. Select the Sharing tab
  4. Set a name for your printer – best practice is your campus, room number, and the model of the printer; ex. IKA0100-HP5500 where IKA=Ikard, room 100, HP Deskjet 5500
  5. Remove the check from the box ‘List in Directory.’
  6. Click Apply
  7. Click OK
To connect to/install the printer on a second computer:

  1. Turn on the computer attached to the shared printer and turn on the printer..
  2. Log in to the computer that needs the printer installed.
  3. Access your printer folder following the steps in the previous section.
